When it comes to to environment, I'm happy to do my fair share. Sometimes I feel guilty that I don't do more. I recycle, turn the faucet off when I brush my teeth, wash clothes with only a full load, water before sunrise, and have efficient toilets/faucets. It's easy to do and makes me feel good about myself.
I say all this because a water main that provides water for most of North Texas sprung a minor leak last week. We got a letter from the city telling us all non-emergency use of water was banned, subject to a $2000 fine. I like my lawn, but not that much. The notice also shared other ways to reduce usage. They suggested quick and tepid showers. If you want to torture me, make me take a short shower, meaning less than ten minutes. If you want to kill me, make me take a tepid shower. I like the water scalding hot that almost brings a tear to your eye.
The city can have my hot water handle, but only when they pry it from my dead cold fingers.

I've been thinking about cutting my hair lately. I've had the same basic haircut for fifteen years. I've got a natural wave that I inherited from my dad. I don't complain because my older brother Chris got his asthma.
My hair is wavy when kept trimmed but turns unruly curly when not properly tended. My last experiment with dramatically changing haircuts was in high school. I got the urge to get a crew cut. I found a old crusty curmudgeon that used to cut hair for the military in WWII. I figured he was my guy. I didn't tell anybody about my plans and made my debut at the basketball game that night. Something worked because I scored 32 points that night.
I don't need a crew cut now, just something that is maintained more easily than what I have. Something I can just run my fingers through and let the brush get jealous of.
