It's a quiet day with not much going on so I'll do some quick journaling.
As it is the holidays, we find ourselves in Waco once again visiting family.
We were planning on driving down tomorrow but Melissa's cousin and her husband are in town from New Jersey so we figured we could come in early from Waco. We see Jen and Don only once a year and each visit is too short but well worth the travel. They were married in 2002. As they took the vacation time to come to our wedding in Dallas, we reciprocated and went to their wedding in New York.
As I had to go into work for a couple of hours, Melissa drove down with her parents; I met them later just as they were about to unwrap presents. Big mistake.
I tried to make a quiet entrance, grab a seat in the back of the living room, and slowly make my presence known. As soon as I walked in, I had 20 people offering to make me a plate of leftovers. I was hungry but not starving so I just grabbed a couple pieces of chicken and sat down. Not good enough. I had to have sides, and a place mat, and utensils.
If you know me, you'll know I don't like absurd amounts of attention paid to me. And by absurd amounts, I mean any at all. I tried to keep my frustration intact and chalk it all up to holiday cheer.
I think we're just having a quiet evening at the house. I started a new book - Robert Caro's "Master of the Senate", third installment of his biography about LBJ. The first several hundred pages are a history of the United States Senate. Very interesting thus far.
That's it. Just waiting for tomorrow to finish on last minute presents.
