When I was in high school, Guido had the car with the coolest stereo system. The entire trunk had all his extra speakers and woofer and sub-woofers and whatever else he could put back there. All I know is that you could hear him thumpin' from five miles away.
Back then, all we listened to was Public Enemy, Ice-T, and NWA. Guido was a little more cautious about what cd's he left in his car after his mom found his Eazy E and listened to it. Sorry, Mrs. Doucet, but what you expect when your son's nickname since Junior High was Guido The Killer Pimp?
I was thinking about that system today. I picked up cd that came out today from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs check 'em out at http://www.yeahyeahyeahs.com/. I read a great review in the paper today about their new cd Show Your Bones. The cd gets its title from the natural phenomenon that occurs when a cartoon figure sticks his finger in a light socket. But even better, the review professed one of the songs provided the missing link between Rush and ABBA.
How could I not get this cd?
The music is a little more punk than I am used to but it has some serious bass. And to complete the circle of irony, this is exactly the kind of music I hated fifteen years ago and would have refused to listen to.
But now that I've gotten over that, it's nearly impossible to listen to this cd and not turn it up as loud as is humanly possible.
Just below the level where blood starts to trickle from your eardrums.
