Got Any Eye Liner?

I think people do pretty idiotic things most of the time. I guess the easiest thing to do is embrace those moments and find the humor in them.

My example: Last month, I attended a conference for a speaker's bureau I do for my agency. It's kinda fun - a couple of times a week, I'll attend outside company's employee meetings and provide a 10 minute presentation about our agency. Groups may be anywhere from 10 to 200 people. As I was once extremely nervous about public speaking, this has taken that fear and essentially negated it.

That's not the story.

At this conference several weeks ago, I was running a bit late since it started at 8 in the morning. By the time I got there, the good muffins and juices had already been taken. I hurriedly grabbed an empty seat in the back and began to pay half-attention.

A few minutes later, a girl who works for the organization that oversees the speaker's bureau came over to my chair to grab her notebook and handouts; I had unknowingly taken her chair. She was very nice about it and only asked for her notebook and handouts.However, she had also left a lipstick case on the table.

She whisper-asked me to give her the lipstick case; I couldn't hear what she was saying and asked repeat it. Rather loudly, though unrudely, she repeated the request in a normal voice. Several tables looked over at me as I was holding the lipstick case like I was trying to steal it.

After the conference, I talked to this poor lipstick-less girl and we made light of the half-embarrasing situation earlier in the morning. As we were parting ways, I jokingly told her I hope I never ran into her again.

This afternoon, I had a speaking engagement downtown.

[Aside - these downtown trips have made me re-realize how great a city Dallas is and how fortunate I consider myself to live and work here. I'll write about it later.]

As I walked in the conference room this afternoon, guess who was there? Yep.She started to laugh and pulled the nefarious lipstick case out only to tease me.
