Ain't No Other

For Melissa's birthday, I took her to see Christina Aguilera and the Pussycat Dolls last night. Even though the tickets didn't materialize until about 5 hours before the show, we only paid $5 above face for them. We were happy to have Chris and Brooke join us.

Since this wasn't my idea, I won't recount much of the concert. Highlights:

1. The 17 year old sitting next to us was more annoying than Ariel at the prom.

2. I just don't get large-audience shows. Sure, the theatrics and light shows are great. For me, I go to a concert to hear some music. I don't know why other people go.

3. I can almost forgive the chaos of touring. All cities begin to look the same, I'm sure. Still, if you're confused, write the name of the city of your hand so you don't forget; you're a professional.

Last year, Frisco opened a new sporting facility to primarily host Dallas' professional soccer team [Beckham is coming this July - we're so there].

Anyway, it's also a great place for an outdoors concert. George Strait and Miranda Lambert played last year and Melissa's family always sees George when he's in town. After his opening song, George says, "Good evening, Frisco, Texas. To tell the truth, I had no idea where Frisco was but I'm glad to be here."

Granted, much of the audience were not residents of Frisco. But to admit you have no idea where your concerts are reveals a disconnect with the audience.

And I'm still waiting on my apology for Pure Country.

Last night, Christina, after her opening song, thanked Houston for our hospitality. She was there the previous night and seemingly forgot a four-hour bus drive from one large city to another. For the rest of the night, she'd throw in a "thank you, Dallas" to make up for it and ended up a very respectable 4-for-5.

4. I've come across some shortcomings of my camera phone. Despite sitting about 100 feet from the stage, it looks like we were a couple of miles away. So much for clarity and resolution from far distances. Also, linking video is not yet an option.
