Who opened my files!, or Perhaps...

  • From the files of Two Faces I Have: I've started to trace back the roots of my social schizophrenia and the reason I'm different things to different people. Last Saturday afternoon for example, we stopped by some friend's house for his annual crawfish boil. We talked about golf, the NFL draft, and sucked the heads of some delicious crustaceans after ripping them apart with our hands. A few hours later, I had a work event at an art gallery near SMU and found myself with an entirely different crowd. We talked about color, texture, and meaning while we ate caviar, tiny hors d'oeuvres that couldn't possibly fill anybody up, and politely laughed at all the appropriate pause lines. Perhaps my innate personality is as bland as the ice cream I eat (vanilla).
  • From the files of It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends: Over the past couple of weeks, I've developed a little crush on Rachel Maddow. What sealed it was the contempt she has Lawrence O'Donnell and the condescending sneers she saves for only him. Perhaps she's the reason I'm watching fast pitch softball tonight.
  • From the files of Time Is On My Side: Working ten miles closer to home and going in earlier means that I get home an hour and a half earlier than I had for the previous three years. It's been an adjustment for the both of us. Last night, for example. We ate dinner, registered, and ran errands. When we were done for the evening, it was still only 8 o'clock. Normally, we wouldn't have been done even eating dinner. Perhaps too much time is on my side.
  • From the files of Are You Experienced?: Tonight, we had dinner at Taco Bueno. If semantics don't mean anything to you, it means that we actually ate dinner inside the restaurant. I've been eating Bueno for a little over ten years now and have only seen it from the drive-thru. I also found out that the same guy who founded Bueno is the same guy who founded Casa Bonita. Perhaps if I was really experimental, I'd have tried something other than a muchaco.
