Well, it's been ten years and maybe more since I first set eyes on you.

Actually, it's only been nine years but never skip a chance to quote Zeppelin.

A little less than a full decade ago, I had been on my first post-collegiate job for about three weeks. I was the first-hire of a newly created four-person department.

Nine years ago today, my boss told me that the newest hire was going to come in and fill out some paperwork before she officially started the next week; her name was Melissa.

Melissa and I chatted for a little bit. She was cute but the last thing I wanted to do was date somebody I worked with.

Several months down the road, we started dating. Several months after that, we got engaged.

Through our employment, we worked side by side for several years.

Through a series of miracles and several acts of charity (few of them mine), we're still working side by side.

Her style is new but the face is the same as it was so long ago,
But from her eyes, a different smile like that of one who knows.

Dreams

I typically have two types of dreams: the kind that make absolutely no sense at all and the ones that are more revealing of my subconscious.

I'm trying to figure out what my dream from last night meant.

Where's Jung when you need him?

I was back in high school Latin class. The teacher singled me out and wrote "prispire" on the board. He asked me what it meant. It didn't look Latin to me but I guessed it had something to do with hope and yearning. I was close but, incorrect. The teacher told me to find out what it means. Soon after that, I woke up.

I've stated my love of languages for quite some time. They're just fascinating to me. It's not something that I can describe - but it has to do with how much I value communication, or more specifically, how much I detest miscommunication. If I could place myself in any biblical moment, The Tower of Babel would be toward the top of my list.

That word has been on my mind all day long. When I got to work, I pulled up an on-line dictionary. Sure enough, prispire is not Latin. And by the way, "to yearn for" is suspiro.

Prispire, in context, appeared to be Eastern European. After about twenty minutes of searching dictionaries and coming up with nothing, I tried one last search. Sure enough, it pulled up a passage from the Bible. Matthew 14:22. Through a bit of sentence structure re-arrangement, I was able to figure out that it meant "to constrain".

Huh?

Should I constrain myself? Not be constrained?
