A Bit of A Funk

Today has been a day of mixed emotions. Up and down, which I don't like to deal with. As a result, I've been in a bit of a funk. Maybe I'll figure it out by the time I get done writing.

On my way into work this morning, I saw a couple of cop cars with a truck load of Mexicans pulled over. Just judging from appearances, including the fact that the truck was loaded with farm equipment, I would be surprised if they had been in the country for more than a couple of months. The guys were sitting on the curb with a very worried look on their faces while one of the policemen was searching the inside of the car.

I wanted to pull around and tell the men that they didn't have to consent to a search. I wanted to go to law school in thirty seconds and represent them on the spot. Instead, I could only get mad at the injustices we see around us.

What made me upset about the situation, though, was a conversation I had with Melissa Saturday night. While we were eating dinner, we noticed a policeman helping a lady who had run out of gas not thirty feet from the gas station. Melissa made the comment that she likes to see policemen out in the community doing good things like that. I replied that is was all public relations. The real work was pulling people over for Driving While Mexican. Little did I know that I would have to wait less than 48 hours to see it for myself.

I was upset getting to work but didn't have time to dwell on it. My boss returned from a ten day trip to Zimbabwe. Her church took a small group of people to help build houses, which probably resembled glorified shacks more than houses. She is simply amazing. I find it incredible that by day she runs a non-profit to help homeless people. On her vacation, she travels to third-world countries to help homeless people. She's an inspiration.

I was feeling a bit queasy going into her office to report on my doings over the past two weeks. While I got almost all of my goals accomplished, I wasn't able to check all of them off. But I had taken care of a couple of other situations that came up and started a big project that could really help us out in the long term. After about thirty minutes of talking, she finally asked me if I was coming to an end anytime soon. She was satisfied work continued without her. I was glad.

The days are starting to get shorter. The earlier darkness makes me a bit sleepy earlier and has been known to put me in a funk.

So, I'm watching Whose Line is it, Anyway on ABCFamily. That show would be ten times better if Drew Carey had divested himself of all creative talent a long time ago. While Wayne Brady is quite talented and multi-faceted, the real treat is watching Colin (the bald one) and Ryan (the tall, goofy one).
The way those two work together and keep a straight face is amazing. Since they do a majority of the skits together, it's like they know what the other is thinking.

Well, I'm not feeling too creative tonight and don't have many original thoughts. Some are percolating but I'll keep those to myself for while.

Ah, the suspense.
