More Tales of Geek Bravado

I've been waiting for a certain phone call before I told this particular story. But I just found out it won't be coming for a day or two and I can't wait.

On Saturday, I met my friend Shannon at the Sixth Floor Museum. Shannon was in town to visit her in-laws and to see a concert. Since we have been talking via e-mail since I ran across her blog, I thought that grabbing lunch and hanging out with somebody I didn't know fifteen years ago for a bit would be fun.

Knowing that Shannon went to school in Denton, I figured she had visited the museum at least once in four years. Nope, it was a fresh experience. So I volunteered to play tour guide.

Well, while we were looking at the photo exhibit of the Pristine Bullet, I noticed the caption identified it as CE-199 (Commission Exhibit #199). I re-read it a couple of times to make sure my eyes saw it correctly. I was absolutely positive that the bullet was CE-399. I wanted to grab somebody and have them prove me wrong. But I didn't. Plus, I wanted to check it out for myself before I accused the museum of making a mistake.

I called the museum yesterday and was put into the curator's voice mail. I even told the receptionist why I was calling. She either figured I was a crack pot (not too far off) or nobody else would notice (again, probably true). Since I hadn't heard back this morning, I called again only to be told the curator is actually on vacation and won't be back in until tomorrow. So who knows if or when he'll call back.

But if he calls back, I'm gonna ask for a lifetime pass to the museum and access to the 7th floor to throw a big party.
