At Least I'm Consistent

I had an work appointment that took me to Garland yesterday late-afternoon. Garland, for those who haven't been there, is Hitchcockian kind of place. It is a suburb of Dallas in the northeast sector. But, it sets rather diagonally because of its relation to 635. So, as you're driving, there is no traveling unidirectional. You can be going down road, trying to arrive due North. The road may take you that far North, but you'll be several miles off to the East or West.

Anyway, the point of the story is that I was traveling on Garland Road near Northwest Highway (in the middle lane). I took a quick look at the Mapsco to see how many intersections would come before I had to make my turn and as I was nearing the intersection, I looked up to see if the light was still green. And I was hit with the most incredible feeling of deja vu.

Almost exactly a year ago, I was in the same exact location. I was delivering political yard signs to our supporters in Garland that day. I was traveling on Garland Road near Northwest Highway (in the middle lane). I took a quick look at the Mapsco to see how many intersections would come before I had to make my turn and as I was nearing the intersection, I looked up to see if the light was still green. But, this time, it was turning yellow so I started to put on the brakes. As I was coming to a gentle halt, the F150 in front of me decided not to run the red light as I had anticipated and instead came to a screeching halt. My plastic and tin car hit the back of the steel giant and bent my hood up pretty good. Of course, nothing happened to the truck.

I said earlier it was almost exactly a year ago. I remember it was after Labor Day, but not quite October yet. So, I'd bet anything I was within three days in either direction.

I guess the point of the story is that I'm just as stupid today as I was a year ago.
