I originally wasn't going to blog about this, but I had such a fun time I changed my mind.
If you go back and read my post from September 8, you'll hear all about the public service announcement that a local production company shot at our offices. Last week, they called back and asked if we could shoot a full length show. The only time available was this morning. Typically, I don't have to work weekends, but I did today.
David sent me over a list of questions that he would ask so that I could prepare answers. That's what I did last night.
Well, his production company is run out of his house. He has converted the den into his studio where he shoots all his PSA's. His wife, Tara, is his assistant. He's not a whole lot older than I am. But we do make an odd team. He's 5'8"; I'm 6'5". He's Black; I'm White.
However, it did turn out that we share quite a bit in common. Been married five years; Recently got into astronomy (he showed me some software he recently purchased for that express purchase; and he plays golf. He has been looking at a telescope he wants to buy so I told he could come out to the house once he gets his new toy.
But back to the main reason I was there. I knew the questions and I knew the answers. I was less aware of the cameras this time. But I was still a bit nervous the first couple of minutes. After the first commercial break, we both loosened up a bit and were able to have more of a conversation. After we finished, but with the tape still rolling, he gave me and Tara one sheet of paper. We were to have a paper plane making contest. I'll be honest. I never learned how to make a paper plane. Heck, I didn't learn how to blow a bubble until I was 9 and learned how to whistle about 5 years ago. I'm way behind the curve when it comes to that kind of stuff.
He made some stealth looking plane that only Lockheed Martin could design. Tara's was a little crude but still essentially aerodynamic. Mine looked like a trig test you folded and put in your back pocket and forgot about for a couple of weeks. Its flight plan resembled Pat Buchanan at the Republican Convention - took a sharp turn to the right and quickly faded.
After that, they took me out for some spicy Migas. It was good to fill my empty belly. Then, back home just in time to post this and watch Texas/Texas Tech.
We'll see what the evening turns into.
