The Half-Time Show Was Also A Sell-Out

Dear Mick-

I read in the paper yesterday morning that Super Bowl officials pre-warned your group that your microphones would be turned off during two short, specific parts of your songs when you sang sexually-explicit lyrics. Were I the decision maker, you wouldn't have been given microphones in the first place, but that's not the point.

Then I read today that you are outraged at the network's censorship.

Shut up, Mick.

You lost all credibility to protest about censorship on January 15, 1967 when you sang "Let's spend some time together" on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Oh, so you rolled your eyes as you self-censored your own lyrics? You really showed 'em, didn't you?

You want to know how to get back at the Man? Do what Morrison did. Tell Ed you'll change the words, but don't. Don't ever get invited back again but know that you kept your manhood intact.

Or be like Jackie Mason and give Ed the finger on live tv.

Or just be like Bo Diddley and refuse to sing the song Ed wants you to sing.

Come to think of it, Mick, why did you sell out - then and now? Was it because the almighty dollar is more precious than your musical integrity?

Or is it because you've lived your entire career being compared with a real British band?

As I write this, I'm watching an internet broadcast of The 88 on Morning Becomes Eclectic (http://www.kcrw.com/show/mb). The interviewer asked the band their musical influences. Guess who they named first? That's right, the greatest band to come from your side of the pond.

Sorry, guess again.
