Is Listening To The 2 Same CD's For Three Days Really Good For You?

I've been listening to the same two cd's since yesterday afternoon. One played right after the other. And I haven't gotten sick of them yet. And I already know what I'll be listening to all day tomorrow.

I told you yesterday about the two cd's I bought.

When I got home and set them on the counter, Melissa was cautiously inquisitive about my new music purchases. She should have know better, as our musical tastes rarely cross over.

She was happy for me that I got Rabbit Fur Coat as I've been talking about it for the past four months. I don't think that it'll come up missing any time soon as she often refers to Rilo Kiley as Rilo Crappy.

Melissa took a look at my Nick Drake cd and hesitantly asked, "Um, who is this guy?" I couldn't accurately describe his music and simply calling it "folk" doesn't do it justice; I do vaguely recall saying it's music you listen to when you want to kill yourself. All I could do I was recount his tragic and untimely death but that wasn't enough. I gave up and said, "I'll just play you some of his music." She listened to about fifteen seconds of his music before she got that "I can't take this any longer" look on her face and left the room while muttering something about how he sounded like Dylan; it was not a compliment. Ergo, my offer to burn her a cd went unanswered.

But back to Rabbit Fur Coat.

First, I've previously discussed my declared eternal crush on Jenny Lewis so no need to recount it here.

For the past several months, I've been reading as many articles as possible about her foray into the world of solo artistry. Many fans are afraid that this marks the inevitable breakup of Rilo Kiley. Some articles have taken this supposed inevitable breakup and mistakenly attempted to link certain commonalities to No Doubt, and even worse, compared Jenny and Gwen Stefani.

Reading the comparisons is like reading that list that itemizes the supposedly eerie coincidences between the Lincoln assassination and the Kennedy assassination.

Each article prophesizing doom-and-gloom revolved around the fact that both female lead singers dated and broke up with a current band member before releasing a solo album.

But most articles don't mention the fact that Jenny's ex, Blake, has his own band (The Elected) and has released multiple albums of his own over the past several years. Or that Jenny has toured with other bands and contributed to their cd's.

Or the simple observation that Jenny Lewis has more talent in her left thumb than Stefani could gather in a lifetime.

Sorry, but a 37 year old prancing around in a cheerleading costume is a little on the sad side.

Since I don't want Stefani to holla back, I want to be clear: I actually like quite a bit of No Doubt's music. But of late, her musical progression has not kept me interested. Her ska influence was gutsy and showed originality. Her teaching me how to spell "bananas" just insults me.
