On the way back from our trip last weekend, Melissa and I listened to the new Beyonce cd. I mentioned how odd it will be the day a future "oldies" station plays what current pop stations play.
And that day is getting closer and closer.
For the past several years, I have noticed classic rock stations playing more Aerosmith (more Love in an Elevator than Sweet Emotion), The Cars, and other late 80's-90's rock-n-roll music. I don't know if they now fit into the classic rock classification or if the program manager is interpreting "classic" differently than I.
This is all leading to my startling discovery the other day.
Dallas has (had) two premiere classic rock-n-roll stations: 92.5 KZPS and 93.3 The Bone.
92.5 has gone to a different format, something they call Lone Star Radio. It's a mix of Outlaw Country (Waylon, Willie, and the boys) , Southern Rock-n-Roll (Freebird!), and Alternative Country (Texas rock-n-roll, as it were).
Gone are the days heavy with Zeppelin, Doors, and other 70's era artists.
Music that regularly made the King Biscuit Flower Hour has been replaced with house-band music.
So don't you ever for a second get to thinking you're irreplaceable.
